Misplaced Priorities...
When "Death to Israel!" is less important than "Genocide Joe Has Got to Go!"
Dearborn, Michigan, home of the Ford Motor Company, was once a thriving blue collar, union-strong, middle-class city steeped in traditional American values. It was a city whose population turned out strong for Memorial Day and Veteran's Day because so many of Dearborn's residents had fought, bled, and died for America. When the fireworks exploded over Dearborn on the 4th of July, the chant, USA! USA! USA! rang out loud and clear.
Dearborn, Michigan is no longer a thriving city. Ford Motor Company has off-shored much of its production, unemployment is high; the number of public assistance recipients is also high... most of the blue collar, union-strong, middle-class residents have fled, taking with them their traditional American values. They've been replaced by a population that embraces an entirely different set of values. For many of Dearborn's current residents, Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, and the 4th of July mean nothing, in fact, those holidays are disrespected and scorned.
Over the weekend, the residents of Dearborn, Michigan turned out strong, they assembled for a rally to celebrate a cause they wholeheartedly embrace. There were no fireworks, but there was a chant: "Death to America! Death to America! Death to America!" Between each chorus could be heard an equally vehement chant: "Death to Israel! Death to Israel! Death to Israel!" Whilst she wasn't in attendance to lead the chants... at least not in the public square, Dearborn, Michigan's congressional representative, Rashida Tlaib, a full-throated antisemitic Palestinian, fully supports the crowd's anti-American, anti-Israel sentiments.
And last month, those sentiments manifested in votes. Michigan held its presidential primary; Joe Biden won unopposed, but the number of ballots cast for "Uncommitted" topped 100 thousand; that's 13% of the total democrat vote. Donald Trump lost Michigan in 2020 by less than 3%, and that was long before Michigan's anti-American, anti-Israel sentiment reached the fever-pitched levels found there now, a place where "Genocide Joe Has Got to Go!" chants are just as loud as they are threatening... to Biden's reelection.
There was panic at the White House. Almost immediately, the Biden administration's support for Israel, tacit as it was, waned. Joe Biden began demanding Israel commit to a cease fire and that Israel withdraw from Gaza; Joe Biden said of Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, "It's time for him to have a 'Come to Jesus' moment." By its criticism and lack of support, the Biden administration is emboldening Israel's enemies, amongst them Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran... all of which are America's enemies, too. Why? The answer is obvious...
The Biden administration values the votes of demonstrably anti-American, anti-Israel dissidents in Michigan... and other places, more than it does America's longstanding relationship with Israel, a steadfast ally and the only democracy in the entire Middle East, a country at war with enemies who constantly chant "Death to America!"
At the very least, the Biden administration's response to a small cohort of "Genocide Joe Has Got to Go" protestors is a massive misplacement of priorities, but worse... and most likely, Joe Biden would rather win an election by pandering to the enemy than risk a loss, even if it's in the best interests of democracy...
Israel's... and America's, too.
