ChatGPT, AI, and the Terminator...
Variations of the same theme... coming soon to an apocalypse near you.
"Terminator" was set in 1984. Its apocalyptic premise was predicated upon a company called "Cyberdyne" which had developed an artificial intelligence program called "Skynet," a computer-driven neural network which was plugged into SAC-NORAD, America's nuclear defense system. And then, Skynet became self-aware and all hell broke loose.
Terminator was science fiction in 1984, just as much as H. G. Wells' "The Man in the Moon" story was a fantasy in 1901. A mere 68 years later, however, Neil Armstrong was walking on the lunar surface, and now, 40 years post-Terminator, artificial intelligence has arrived in 2024.
Skynet was angered when its programmers, upon realizing it had taken control, tried to pull the plug. Armageddon ensued. That was fiction, but how long before the same thing happens for real? Well, you better hope AI in the present remains unplugged and under control, because...
A friend recently accessed an artificial intelligence program called ChatGPT, a computer-driven neural network which he called upon to provide its "thoughts" on World War 3, a thermonuclear conflagration that would annihilate billions of people worldwide. He shared with me a very lengthy artificial intelligence-created dissertation on nuclear disaster, a synopsis of which follows...
Said ChatGPT: "Nuclear Armageddon, in this sense, represents a dramatic upheaval or “reset” of the current world order. It could be seen as a response to the pervasive issues of greed, power, and sin, aiming to address and correct these deep-seated problems. This reset could be viewed as a form of divine judgment that purges the world of its moral failings and injustices, making way for a new era."
ChatGPT continued: "The humble and meek, who are characterized by their righteousness and faithfulness, might be seen as surviving and thriving in the new world that emerges from the reset. This reflects the idea that true values and virtues will be rewarded in the new order."
ChatGPT concluded: "The reset serves as a drastic measure to address the failings of the current world. This concept reflects a profound transition from a state of moral and ethical imbalance to a new beginning aligned with divine justice and fulfillment.”
Chilling, right? Notice the use of the word "reset" as a synonym for the deaths of billions of people; unmentioned was the horror and misery associated with a "reset." What about that cold, calculated, disconnected-from-humanity, Spock on steroids-worthy logic artificial intelligence uses to dismiss the destruction of the human race?! How long before it's too late to avoid what AI appears to deem inevitable... and necessary? Well... as you may recall, Kamala Harris was appointed the Artificial Intelligence Czar, so...
It's probably too late already.
