Jews, Christians, and Muslims worship the same God, and yet, each have, on many occasions, fought wars against the other for over nearly 2,000 years... the Jewish people have weathered wars waged against them by a host of other enemies for thousands of years longer. Exodus chronicles the Jewish people's liberation from Egyptian slavery. Since then, Jews have faced countless threats of extermination; Christ was a Jew... the Romans crucified him. But all of that is ancient history.
Not so ancient were the efforts made by Nazi Germany to exterminate the Jewish race; over 6 million died in concentration camps. But the hatred didn't end there... today, antisemitism is still alive and well, and it's no longer being kept a secret.
Hamas, a radical Islamic terrorist organization, exterminated nearly 1,500 Jews last year; in response, as it has done for millennia, Israel repelled its attacker and mounted a counter-offensive. Antisemites everywhere used Israel's incursion into Gaza as an excuse to shed all pretenses... overt expressions of Jew hatred became acceptable again, and no more so than in America.
In the immediate aftermath of Israel's retaliation against the Hamas attack, protests in support of the residents of Gaza began. As Israel furthered its efforts to neutralize the Hamas threat, signs appeared that read "Cease Fire Now," and "Free Palestine." Soon thereafter, the chant became, "From the River to the Sea," a not-so-veiled reference to the extermination of Israel... and Jews.
But now, the protests have escalated, they've become violent, both physically and rhetorically. Today, police are being assaulted, as is anyone else who supports Israel. You'll now find signs that read, "Death to Israel" and "We Are Hamas"... in other words, we are sadistic murderous rapists and, apparently, they're proud of it.
What's even more troubling than streets and college campuses filled with self-admitted terrorists is the almost total lack of a response from the government and other institutions of authority and influence. Protesters are emboldened and encouraged when they receive no condemnation for filling the air with chants of "Death to Israel" and, with no less fervor, "Death to America," too. Historically, the boundary between rhetoric and violence is easily crossed and, like the southern border, it's wide-open now.
On the bright side, the Jewish people have persevered through the ages, they've withstood all attacks... they'll survive this one too. Ironically... and not so bright, is this: As our country spirals ever-deeper into division and self-loathing fueled by segments of society filled with antisemitic... and no less destructive anti-American hatred, the chances increase that the same survival story...
Will never be written about America.
